Colors are a "simple" part of the mis-en-scene that I can manipulate and use to my advantage simply to convey my message more easily to my audience. I am putting myself into the shoes of a meticulous filmmaker and making each choice with no accident, this includes but is not limited to colors! They can affect the whole film watching experience and can overall deepen the narrative.
Although I learned most of what I know about colors in class thanks to Mrs. Stoklosa's helpful lessens on colors and their meanings, there is so much more out there to learn!
A simple and easy use of color can create a feeling for viewers and it essentially becomes the backbone of all feelings that are felt in the film. Colors help out a lot in making sure the viewers are feeling appropriately what they should be feeling. They can also show a characters progression throughout the film and highlight character development. Often times the entire meaning and message behind a film itself is communicated through the use of colors. A lot of times the repetition of the same color throughout a film can be a subtle way to cement what the true meaning is and the theme of each scene.
Besides all of that, each color has a meaning specific to itself, below I will explain them. Below is a picture followed by my own explanations of each color.
