To be totally honest my mind is in a million different places with this project right now. I mean its not a bad thing because it is resulting in me researching and pondering a lot about this and I am excited for what’s to come. But I can’t decide what I want to create, there are so many factors that need to be picked and so many choices that need to be meticulously considered.
Lets get one thing super clear, I want to get across something new and nothing tired, not anything that has already been seen a million times on the big screen. It can’t be something that within the first 2 minutes they already know whats going to happen at the end and are bored, I want them to be on edge the whole time.
I find myself compelled to compose a piece that makes my viewers wish that they could see the whole film because they are so fascinated to figure out what happens next. I want to them hooked from the very beginning.
Luckily I am no stranger to successfully pursuing the ‘net to enlighten myself and to make decisions based on not only what interests me but what has proven to be successful for others! So, I have found a super helpful source which has given me some great ideas for how to complete my piece.
Below I have compiled the list that I found from an interesting article which I read and drew ideas from regarding the possible ways to open my film and below are the ones which i am the most interested in doing:
-Dramatic Irony: gives the viewers vital knowledge and insight that the main character is seemingly unaware of.
-Flash forward: when there is a narrator who tells the main story that already happened and there are flash forward parts so the narrator continues the story.
-Montage: a compiling of short clips to give the viewers a large amount of information at once. It tells a high sped story and then can transition in to a regular pace.
I do see myself going about my film opening through one of these methods and I am pretty excited because they all sound equally as fun to me.
my enriching citation ! :)
