Music

You guys WOULDN'T BELIEVE how difficult it is to find the proper music for this trailer...

I have spent hours sifting through hundreds of different options.

Trying to find a piece that is around 2 and a half minutes long, royalty free, free FREE, and is not just the same beats the whole time, was nearly impossible!!

So I have been struggling developing an idea for story and I remembered that music is a beautiful thing that inspires me so much! Honestly this quarantine situation is pretty rough and it hard to remember how I got inspired to do things and be productive before this started :(

Anyway, since I will be editing on WeVideo as I know I previously discussed... That is the spot that I have browsed looking for potential royalty free songs for my trailers. I am also going back and forth with the idea of using a voiceover the whole time of my characters reading their diary or something but regardless... music will for sure be playing under their voices if that is the case.

Here are some of the gems that I discovered within WeVideo...  Honestly, they aren't great. I need to keep looking.

"A race against time"
"hyperion uprising"
"inspired by melody"
"the 13th gate"
"melting light"
"epic film trailer music" !!!

I like the last option the best as of now because it is a total of 4 minutes so therefore I can split it in half and use it for each trailer to add a sense of cohesion.

Hope to actually see people soon,

we are learning about the poster!!!!

So I wanted to do a blog post that explains the conventions of a movie poster because I did unfortunately mess this up during the last project that I needed to develop a movie poster for. Therefore I believe it will be very beneficial to include this information here for me to refer back to in the future, seeing that I need it.

Here we go, conventions of a movie poster:

-title font alludes to genre
-tagline used to promote the film
-color scheme also is significant and alludes to the genre
-to be eye catching
-focal picture to draw audience eye
-clearly define genre
-designed to attract large audience
-indication of when release
-billing block at the bottom with info regarding directors and production company
-reviews or titles of other films that the company has produced
-include website or links to social media

Now I am going to include some iconic examples that may help me out:

Fonts

Today I decided that it may be a good idea to sit down and relax and consider some fonts for my piece. Since filming is clearly at a halt due to the fact that I quite literally cannot leave my home and do not have an adequate cast of actors I am honestly really struggling. One thing is for sure, the genre is certainly going to be a drama so I know that I can begin finding fonts to suit my story that will be interviewed throughout my trailers and also on my movie poster.

Here are some options that I am going back and forth between for font.

Thank you Mrs. Stoklosa!

Okay I’m starting to feel a little better.

So we had our group  session (thank you Mrs. Stoklosa!) To help us through these tough and ever changing times. I have a LOT to figure out regarding my entire production because at this point I am highly concerned because basically the entire world is shut down:(

Anyway, my class and I had a productive chat about what our next move will be and I feel better because I am able to change some stuff up if it is necessary which trust me it is highly necessary at this point. I have been brainstorming about how to try my best and keep what I can from my old blueprints because I really liked my ideas.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to be motivated and to grab inspiration out of thin air when i’m stuck at home all day. Thankfully, I have a decent size family to use as actors and will be informing you on what I will be using them for very, very soon.

Getting there,
Lina

High stress high stress high stress

I have to be real with you guys I am freaking out a little.

Time is a valuable thing and I find it is slipping out from under me!!

Very helpful thing that I learned was that our deadline for this ordeal has been pushed back a little which is making me feel good considering the amount of “reblocking” that must be done to make my ideas a real like production.

Very excitingly I have also heard that Mrs. Stoklosa will be holding a very informative and helpful conference with her, myself, and my peers. This should help me brainstorm in addition to clearing up some confusion about this whole thing.

Here as follows are my questions that I will be attempting to ask during this conference, if not hopefully I will be able to email them to Mrs. Stoklosa or find another person willing to listen to hear me out and consider these real questions i have regarding my entire plot and whole final production.

I do think I will feel better once I film so hopefully I will be able to get on that as soon as I clear the air with some of my questions that I currently have!

Without further ado here are my questions:

Should I have him had been watching her this whole time?
Should I have him going through similar experiences that she is?
Should I never show his life before right until the moment he saves her from jumping?

Thanks for sticking around,
Lina

Welcome Website

I have begun the creation of my Wix Website for my movie!

As we all know there are multiple components to my project going on here (two 2 and a half minute trailers, a website promoting the film, and the poster of the film). Today we are focusing on the website. After deliberating between different options for websites I decided that the most reasonable option for me to choose is wix websites mostly because it is easy to use, free, and I already worked with this software during my music promotional project last year.

This photo shows an extremely rough draft for what I am thinking regarding my website. I still have no fully decided on a name for my movie and in the next upcoming blog posts I hope to be able to provide you with  a set in stone name for my film. For now, I have "Two-Sided" which is fine for now but I think that I can do better.
As soon as I cement a name for my film, I will be able to publish my website and make it live!

Thanks for connecting,
Lina

Figuring it out

I knew that this new change in plans was not going to be ideal but it has led to a really cool idea that I am actually very excited to share with you guys. At first, when I came up with this idea I was skeptical. I even thought that Mrs. Stoklosa was not going to be a fan of it. However, it turns out she was really supportive of this idea!! I am so excited to share it because I cannot wait to make it come to life!

My plan is to have the two separate trailers be one from Tessa's point of view and the other from River's point of view. I think this idea will be fantastic because it brings a new interesting element into the process of story telling.

I have been struggling with a while about how I would differentiate between the two different trailers and also find a way to present a love story but in a way that could stand out.

I also had a cool thought that since I am doing two different trailers with two different people and their lives are set to overlap when Tessa tries to end her life, that I would try to coney that the first trailer of Tessa's life shows her life up to before she dies and mets him and then River's life would start when she tries to jump off the bridge and the rest of the trailer could be his life after. This would symbolize his life beginning with her but I am not sure if that is just two complicated and not a good idea.

Thanks for sticking around,
Lina

An unfortunate turn of events

I have very unfortunate news to share with you all and it is that I don’t think i will be able to go to tampa anymore. Given the current state with the corona virus it just is not working out at this point. This means that I do need a new star for my trailer series and I need one fast because I need to film before I can start creating my poster and content for my website as well.

I will be needing to rework quite a few aspects of film also because many public places have been closed down indefinitely.

Fortunately, as far as quarantining goes, I have quite a few actors in my home. Although this is not good to stay social distancing it is good because I have 4 actors that I can work with, plus myself. Hopefully very soon I will have more of an idea of how I will adjust my film to work with the people living in my home but unfortunately as of now I am at a loss.

Countdown to this weekend !!!!!!

Could not be more excited that in a week from today I will have begun filming !! Yay!!!

In the upcoming blogs, be expecting amazing things!

For example, I will be coming to you with a storyboard with examples of shots and very specific things that I am looking to shoot once I go up to Tampa.

Now, my teacher Mrs. Stoklosa did raise some concerns to me that I would like to clear up to you guys to keep the record straight.

It is risky to chose to film in Tampa but don't worry because although I will be shooting in this location, my main star will be voyaging down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, (where I live) shortly after. This gives me enough time to review the footage and begin editing just in time to realize I want more or different things.

I have also recently been playing around with the words/narration that I will be portraying on screen during the trailer however I am not ready with a draft yet because I am in fact considering waiting till I begin the editing process so I can make the storyline go along with the footage but that is not clear yet.

Also, while discussing things with Mrs. Stoklosa, I came the realization that I am not going to try to spend a bunch of money buying new editing software and learning a bunch of new things that will be confusing. Instead, I am going to prove the power of my very cheap / free editing software!

For now, I will spend time learning more about the little hidden gems that are included in my current software. Here are some that I can share with you tonight...

iMovie hidden gems:

1. Keyboard shortcuts
-There are shortcuts that are so helpful for many different things such as moving to the next frame, jumping forward, moving to previous frame, book marking, etc.
2. Timeline
-This is where all of the editing takes place! It makes it quick and easy to make changes as needed and cover ground quickly.
3. Movie Sharing
-This makes it easy to edit the videos from whichever device I have and from wherever I am.
4. Lowered Background noise
-This helps to clarify the clips if there was too much unnecessary noise.

Thanks for being here <3
Lina.

Daylight Savings!

Well it appears I am getting one less hour of sleep tonight :(

Hi guys! Today's update is involving research on how to create a website for a movie because I have never done that before so I want to do it correctly.

While I was brainstorming movie websites that I may want to look at for inspiration I considered that the movie Avatar may have a cool one and coincidentally the website I chose to research about creating a website for my film included Avatar as one of their examples!

Here it is in all of its beauty....
Twilight website

Now, I present the steps on how to effectively create a website for your film.

1. Find a Web Host
-this is usually a tiny bit costly so I will be sacrificing having a crowded domain name in order for this to be free because obviously my budget here is zero.

2. Get a Domain Name
-although for a real movie this is highly important, mine may not be able to be as ideal as I would like it to be because of the reasons I just explained but I will include either on the website or in my blog in the near future what I would have liked, if I cannot get it, my website to be named:)

3. Add content!
-some examples of content is most importantly, THE TRAILERS!!!
-however, other important aspects to think about while building content for my website are the... release date information, sneak peak into the plot, names of cast/crew members, images and videos of the cast and from behind scenes, connections to social media..
-this is really helpful that I am finding this information out now because I am filming in about a week and this will all be highly beneficial for me!!

introducing.....

Hi guys!
Tonight I am going to be sharing the stars of my production with you!

I think it is important to introduce these amazing people so you guys can start to get a feel for just what I am going to create in these upcoming weeks. By the way, I am hoping you enjoyed the plot that I wrote for you guys! It is very exciting for me and I am hoping that I am able to bring all my ideas to light in the near future and create a very exciting piece.

Without further ado....

In case we forgot I will reintroduce our cast,

Kaelin Danieli as Tessa Rodway
Jake Robani as River Ross, Tessa's love interest
Katherine Enriquez as Therapist
Kelly Enriquez as Kelly Rodway, Tessa's mother
Stephen Enriquez as Todd Rodway, Tessa's father

Kaelin Danieli:

This is our beautiful star! This works out amazing because Kaelin is an aspiring actress! She is really good at acting and she fits how I envisioned the star would look and the age they would be perfect. Plus she is very dramatic which helps a lot in this instance!
Image may contain: Kaelin Danieli, smiling, standing and shoes

Jake Rabani:

This is our second main character! I am excited to be working with him because he goes to USF and studies film! He creates very amazing pieces and I do use him for inspiration so this is an honor to be working with him and putting him on the flip side of the camera.
Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, outdoor

Katherine Enriquez:

The way I thought of the therapist made me think of my grandma because I believe she will take this role very seriously and that is exactly what I want. I believe she will add authenticity to the piece itself.
Image may contain: Katherine Hollifield Enriquez, smiling

Kelly and Stephen:

Who better than my beautiful parents to act in my film ;) I am excited to incorporate them into my trailers because they can be good actors when they wanna be! I think they fit the role of her parents perfectly and kind of even look like Kaelin!
Image may contain: Kelly Cheetham Enriquez and Stephen Enriquez, people smiling, people standing

Thanks for tuning in:)

genre drama genre drama

See the source image

Good morning!!

It is officially established that I am creating a drama production!
I have researched them to get a firm understanding of these conventions of drama so I can be highly prepared.

This is important because I need to have a
Now I present genre conventions of drama:

General overview:
-exhibits real life situations with realistic characters, settings and story lines
-portray journey of character development
-adds intense social interaction filled with climaxes and anti climaxes to keep the audience emotionally attached to the ongoing tension
-purpose: to move the audience emotionally through creating characters that the audience can relate to the characters
-ending happily with a form of realization
-heart of a drama is a conflict (internal or external) which depicts hardships, difficulty, and pain
-audience must be able to relate to the characters
-no fantasy elements
-represents real life
-shows best and worst life emotions
-may include sub dramas (I am going to create a drama with a sub genre of mental illness)
-challenges the ignorance of stereotypes
-therapeutic in a way because it shows the protagonist overcoming their difficulties

Elements of the Protagonist:
-goes through an emotional journey
-particularly unstable or vulnerable
-must face a tough decision
-easy to empathize and sympathize with
-has a lot in common with the target audience and therefore can be related to easily

Popular examples:
-Fight Club
-American Beauty
-Titanic
-Lady Bird
-Clueless

One very important genre characteristic that I found that I really though stuck out to me was the challenging the ignorance of stereotypes. As we know this was my original idea in terms of OCD so although I am no longer doing OCD specifically, I still hope to achieve this.

Happy Sunday!

Hi guys! I have some fun and exciting details to share with you all :)

Full plot (draft):

Tessa "Tes" Rodway is a high school senior. She is struggling with an unidentified mental illness that drives her crazy and ruins her quality of life. Her parents decide to find her a therapist and she begins going to therapy.

Therapy isn't working and in fact it is bringing all of her past traumas and previous symptoms of her illness to the fore front of her mind and making her go insane.

Tes meets someone one day while she is going through a mental break. His name is River Ross. They begin hanging out and eventually he opens up and explains that he is going through something similar as she is. The two bond over the fact that they mutually have no idea what is going on but they do not have control of their mind.

Then River moves away one day suddenly and all becomes dark for Tes again. Her life begins spirally downhill with his absence. All her old symptoms come back even worse and it is looking very bad for her and her future.

Reaching the end of the film, still unclear what is wrong with Tes, she decides to end her own life. She plans to do so by jumping off a building. Just as she is about to jump her life flashes before her eyes and she remembers all of the good including meeting her boyfriend Jake. Right at this moment Jake appears and grabs her from behind and they both get off the ledge of the building crying.

Cast:

Kaelin Danieli as Tessa Rodway
Jake Robani as River Ross, Tessa's love interest
Katherine Enriquez as Therapist
Kelly Enriquez as Kelly Rodway, Tessa's mother
Stephen Enriquez as Todd Rodway, Tessa's father

Filming:
