Final Update:(

It is final, reflective, comments time everybody.

This is pretty emotional for me because of a lot of different things.

First, this project is the last major project that I will ever complete in high school. Additionally, I just found out today that I will never step foot in my high school as a student ever again in my life. That information is very crazy to me to take in. I am going to miss a ton of things about high school. Aice media has always been once of my absolute favorite classes with one of my favorite teachers. It's hard for me to accept that I will never be back in that classroom as a student. :(

Reflecting on this project I definitely can think of a lot of things because I learned a lot about a lot of things. I had to make so many adjustments that I am glad that I wasn't procrastinating at all because I needed all of the time I had to make everything just the way I wanted it. To start off, I chose to do the film promotional package because I believed that I was most interested in creating trailers so this would be the best option for me. It was rocky at some points, but I still believe I made the right decision. I struggled developing a plot, I began my project with many different ideas but never was truly happy with any of them until recently. At first, I wanted to create a production as an ode to the experiences that I go through related to ocd and misconceptions about it. After bringing this up to a lot of people, however, I realized that it was over my head. This is when I thought I could do a teen drama piece while still incorporating a love story. After the Corona Virus decided to occur and ruin my plans, I was at a total lose. I had no idea what to do at this point. This is when I started to get nervous. To fix this issue, I just began filming. This probably did end up wasting a lot of time but it ended up leading me to my idea which was to work with what I have and what I know. I made my film package about a girl who had her last year of competitive dance taken from her and she decided to take matters into her own hands and make her last dance be on her basketball court for her family to have closure on her dance season being robbed from her.

What took me the longest and was the most difficult, aside from coming up with the idea, was honestly creating a clear brand across my trailers, website, and poster. Not all of the platforms I was working with had the same fonts and things so it was difficult matching everything but after lots of dedication I was able to do so. It was pretty difficult to learn how to successfully create a website and make it functioning and look realistic. That took me a lot of time. It also took me a lot of time to keep going back and tinkering with my poster because I wanted it to be just right. I am proud of myself for figuring everything out eventually and creating a piece that is special to me! I really hope you guys enjoy what I put together because it took a lot from me and it means a lot to me!

Can't wait for you guys to see the final results!

Finishing Touches

Hi guys! Today I am putting the final touches on Trailer #1 and my poster!

I am going to share a little look at my screen during the editing process.

I have been modifying all of the shots by manipulating some simple adjustments usually in the following fashion: higher brightness, more contrast, more saturation, cooler temperature.
For the shots of myself during her final dance moment I decided to add the dream effect which makes it very bright to make the moment feel surreal.

I want to try and establish consistency within my trailers so I will of course be using the same editing process within both. Some exciting news is that I have decided to edit both of my trailers using a cool pink grainy filter. This filter can be found on Prequel! I decided pink as a theme throughout my trailers and entire campaign because pink, to me, represents ballet which represents dance!

Poster Preparation

For starters, I wanna say I am so happy we are finally here at this point to be considering the movie poster!

For fonts, I decided to match them as close or exactly to the fonts that are present in the movie trailer. This helps create a brand consistency.

(AMATIC SC and SACRAMENTO)

For the photo, I used a shot from the most meaningful moment within the film. This is an extremely significant moment for the main character which is why I thought it would be a good marker for the film to be remembered by.

For editing, I did the same type of editing that I used throughout the trailers which is higher contrast and higher brightness. I want everything to be casual and calm. This is the brand so it would be important to stay consistent within the trailer.

For the tagline, here are some options that I am going back and forth between:
She took her fate into her own hands.
Where some would give us she preserved.
For the love of dance.

I can't wait to disclose with you guys my final poster!

Looking forward to it,
Lina

Set design!

Hi so I know I mentioned a while ago I would be going off of what the set looked like in the show Euphoria. I have luckily been able to watch it with my new Hulu prescription to get a better feel for what is going on. For fonts, filters, and editing, I want everything to be simple and casual.

I am also gonna show you guys tonight a sneak peek of some raw footage!
Enjoy...

It may not make sense now but it will when you see the final product.

Thanks!

Website Creation

Hi so I created my website today!
Of course as I have mentioned in the past I would be using wix.

So it did take me a couple hours to figure out the whole website especially the font situation along with the colors because they had to match the poster and the trailer.

My website will have a lay out where I will use the picture from the movie poster but without any words on it, then when you scroll down you will be able to view the two trailers. The last component to the website is a little blurb of information about the production of the film including a link to this blog! Below I will include a couple of sneak peaks regarding the website in addition to the small blurb that I included about the production! It will look as follows:

Last Dance Behind the Scenes Blog
lina3711.blogspot.com

Last Dance is a beautiful and meaningful production. It was shot to depict a young senior in high school who has been devastatingly effected by the Corona Virus pandemic. Explore our site to get some behind the scenes look and view both trailers before this film comes to theaters on May 7th, 2020. For more inside looks, check out the link posted above for a blog created during production of Last Dance.

Thank you for tuning in!

Editing

I am luckily beginning to remember what gives me the most motivation, that is actually spending time in the editing process hearing the music and editing! So that is exactly what I have been doing. Here are some little sneak peeks of my work within the editor. :)

Hopefully this gives you guys a better idea of where I am at:)

Also music update!!! I have finally solidified music for my project. The name of the music that I will be using for my first trailer is, "Run Until Your Wings Grow." I found this tune on youtube audio library with free royalty free music. (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music?nv=1)

Doin' better!

Desperate times call for...

As we all know, being quarantined has thrown a knife into all of our backs and made it very difficult to continue the creative process. Today I am sharing with you guys a picture of me during filming where I had to set up my camera on top of some items to film myself in the mirror since I am the actor and my tripod was too high up for what I wanted in this shot. This was pretty much my only option, I do like the final product of this shot but it is unfortunate that I can't be with my cousin right now who was supposed to be the main character of my trailers.

Today's struggle that I am trying to come to terms with is that within my trailer, I am going to have to be acting. I hate my voice and I certainly hate acting so this should be fun.

Stay tuned,
Lina

Filming Frenzy!

I was able to begin my filming process!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next blog post, once I have cleared the storage on my computer so that I can upload my footage, I will be sharing some raw takes with you guys!

In the mean time, I am going to share my concept for the second trailer that I have come up with and my concept for the movie poster that I would like to share.

Side note: I would like to carry through my trailer a Euphoria inspired vibe because it really appeals to my age group. (Luckily I just bought a Hulu account so now I can actually watch Euphoria and gain inspiration from the series!)
See the source imageIt triggered mass panic!' – is Euphoria the most shocking teen ...Euphoria' (HBO) Review: Zendaya Series Is Too Much to Handle ...

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8772296/?ref_=vp_back

SO for my cover I want it to be a picture of me sitting against a wall holding my phone. I will photoshop it to look like you can see the texts I am getting from my love interest River. I also want to be able to include a warning label to stay inside or not go outside somewhere on the poster but I may add that to my tagline. Additionally, I want to look pretty casual and not dressed up at all and with makeup all over my face a little bit.

Next for the second trailer I was thinking that instead of having the audio being my voice over and my love interest River's voice I would but the same visuals with a heavier reliance on title slides and music instead of voice overs.

Keeping ya up to date,
Lina

Title Time

Since we have cleared the air with our plot situation, finally I can buckle down and create a title and a tagline that will be put onto the poster! This may change as my plot develops.

Standing Title: Last Dance

Standing Tagline: Unclear as of now... Somewhere along the lines of "taking control of your fate."

Also I wanted to include a quick update:
I will also be utilizing short excerpts from the time that I had been able to spend within rehearsal with my team. These videos will be very short and also very blurry because in the way I will be using them they should be representing the characters dream.

I also have good news because as we know, we are on strict lockdown orders, I am unable to leave the house most of the time. Unfortunately, my camera has been at my brothers house since this whole thing started (since he has been staying with us during quarantine at my parents house).  Thankfully today we were able to take a drive over to his home about 30 minutes away and retrieve the camera so I am able to commence filming!

The timing is working out and I feel confident.

Keeping you updated,
Lina

Finally a breakthrough

I finally got a load of inspiration today to fix my plot.

So as I recently described my situation of not having access to literally any actors, I was forced to recreate a new plot for my film and reorganize the whole thing in my head. Of course, it pretty much had to be related to the current situation related to COVID-19 and quarantine. I did want to avoid relating it to this but I really did not have much of an option. Anyway, let us get right into the explanation to my new plot. I tried really hard to avoid the whole cliche love interest situation so enjoy.

I am going to be the main actress because I don't really have a choice here since I am very adamant about the target audience being my age group.

Therefore I see it fitting to introduce you guys to a picture of me!

Image may contain: Kelly Cheetham Enriquez, closeup
Here is my senior picture!

So moving on,
My plot is relating to a girl (me) who has been a dancer her whole life.
She is a senior in high school so this is her last year of eligibility to be a dancer at her studio. She sees on the news that we are on lockdown and she realizes that her whole rest of her last year is canceled and therefore her last show is now going to be canceled. She is not sure what to do but she decides that she has to create her own last dance in order to get the closure that she needs to part ways with the art that she loves so much.

Stay tuned,
Lina

Music

You guys WOULDN'T BELIEVE how difficult it is to find the proper music for this trailer...

I have spent hours sifting through hundreds of different options.

Trying to find a piece that is around 2 and a half minutes long, royalty free, free FREE, and is not just the same beats the whole time, was nearly impossible!!

So I have been struggling developing an idea for story and I remembered that music is a beautiful thing that inspires me so much! Honestly this quarantine situation is pretty rough and it hard to remember how I got inspired to do things and be productive before this started :(

Anyway, since I will be editing on WeVideo as I know I previously discussed... That is the spot that I have browsed looking for potential royalty free songs for my trailers. I am also going back and forth with the idea of using a voiceover the whole time of my characters reading their diary or something but regardless... music will for sure be playing under their voices if that is the case.

Here are some of the gems that I discovered within WeVideo...  Honestly, they aren't great. I need to keep looking.

"A race against time"
"hyperion uprising"
"inspired by melody"
"the 13th gate"
"melting light"
"epic film trailer music" !!!

I like the last option the best as of now because it is a total of 4 minutes so therefore I can split it in half and use it for each trailer to add a sense of cohesion.

Hope to actually see people soon,
Lina

we are learning about the poster!!!!

So I wanted to do a blog post that explains the conventions of a movie poster because I did unfortunately mess this up during the last project that I needed to develop a movie poster for. Therefore I believe it will be very beneficial to include this information here for me to refer back to in the future, seeing that I need it.

Here we go, conventions of a movie poster:

-title font alludes to genre
-tagline used to promote the film
-color scheme also is significant and alludes to the genre
-to be eye catching
-focal picture to draw audience eye
-clearly define genre
-designed to attract large audience
-indication of when release
-billing block at the bottom with info regarding directors and production company
-reviews or titles of other films that the company has produced
-include website or links to social media

Now I am going to include some iconic examples that may help me out:

Fonts

Today I decided that it may be a good idea to sit down and relax and consider some fonts for my piece. Since filming is clearly at a halt due to the fact that I quite literally cannot leave my home and do not have an adequate cast of actors I am honestly really struggling. One thing is for sure, the genre is certainly going to be a drama so I know that I can begin finding fonts to suit my story that will be interviewed throughout my trailers and also on my movie poster.

Here are some options that I am going back and forth between for font.

Thank you Mrs. Stoklosa!

Okay I’m starting to feel a little better.

So we had our group  session (thank you Mrs. Stoklosa!) To help us through these tough and ever changing times. I have a LOT to figure out regarding my entire production because at this point I am highly concerned because basically the entire world is shut down:(

Anyway, my class and I had a productive chat about what our next move will be and I feel better because I am able to change some stuff up if it is necessary which trust me it is highly necessary at this point. I have been brainstorming about how to try my best and keep what I can from my old blueprints because I really liked my ideas.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to be motivated and to grab inspiration out of thin air when i’m stuck at home all day. Thankfully, I have a decent size family to use as actors and will be informing you on what I will be using them for very, very soon.

Getting there,
Lina

High stress high stress high stress

I have to be real with you guys I am freaking out a little.

Time is a valuable thing and I find it is slipping out from under me!!

Very helpful thing that I learned was that our deadline for this ordeal has been pushed back a little which is making me feel good considering the amount of “reblocking” that must be done to make my ideas a real like production.

Very excitingly I have also heard that Mrs. Stoklosa will be holding a very informative and helpful conference with her, myself, and my peers. This should help me brainstorm in addition to clearing up some confusion about this whole thing.

Here as follows are my questions that I will be attempting to ask during this conference, if not hopefully I will be able to email them to Mrs. Stoklosa or find another person willing to listen to hear me out and consider these real questions i have regarding my entire plot and whole final production.

I do think I will feel better once I film so hopefully I will be able to get on that as soon as I clear the air with some of my questions that I currently have!

Without further ado here are my questions:

Should I have him had been watching her this whole time?
Should I have him going through similar experiences that she is?
Should I never show his life before right until the moment he saves her from jumping?

Thanks for sticking around,
Lina

Welcome Website

I have begun the creation of my Wix Website for my movie!

As we all know there are multiple components to my project going on here (two 2 and a half minute trailers, a website promoting the film, and the poster of the film). Today we are focusing on the website. After deliberating between different options for websites I decided that the most reasonable option for me to choose is wix websites mostly because it is easy to use, free, and I already worked with this software during my music promotional project last year.

This photo shows an extremely rough draft for what I am thinking regarding my website. I still have no fully decided on a name for my movie and in the next upcoming blog posts I hope to be able to provide you with  a set in stone name for my film. For now, I have "Two-Sided" which is fine for now but I think that I can do better.
As soon as I cement a name for my film, I will be able to publish my website and make it live!

Thanks for connecting,
Lina

Figuring it out

I knew that this new change in plans was not going to be ideal but it has led to a really cool idea that I am actually very excited to share with you guys. At first, when I came up with this idea I was skeptical. I even thought that Mrs. Stoklosa was not going to be a fan of it. However, it turns out she was really supportive of this idea!! I am so excited to share it because I cannot wait to make it come to life!

My plan is to have the two separate trailers be one from Tessa's point of view and the other from River's point of view. I think this idea will be fantastic because it brings a new interesting element into the process of story telling.

I have been struggling with a while about how I would differentiate between the two different trailers and also find a way to present a love story but in a way that could stand out.

I also had a cool thought that since I am doing two different trailers with two different people and their lives are set to overlap when Tessa tries to end her life, that I would try to coney that the first trailer of Tessa's life shows her life up to before she dies and mets him and then River's life would start when she tries to jump off the bridge and the rest of the trailer could be his life after. This would symbolize his life beginning with her but I am not sure if that is just two complicated and not a good idea.

Thanks for sticking around,
Lina
